Recent announcements reveal significant hospitality developments across the U.S. and Asia, including new hotels in Alabama and Las Vegas, along with international acquisitions. Notable projects include a dual-branded hotel in Las Vegas and expansions by Marriott and Accor, which signify substantial growth in the hospitality sector. Additionally, occupancy rates are on the rise in cities like Abu Dhabi and Sydney, highlighting a robust recovery in travel and tourism.
New hotel projects are reshaping the hospitality landscape in the United States and Asia, with multiple significant developments announced recently. From Alabama to Australia, hotel brands are expanding their reach with innovative concepts to enhance guest experiences.
Noble Investment Group has commenced construction on its 10th StudioRes hotel in collaboration with Marriott International in Mobile, Alabama. This hotel is set to open in McGowin Park, marking a significant step in Marriott’s new extended-stay brand, which boasts over 50 projects in its signed pipeline, with about half already under construction. The introduction of this hotel signifies Marriott’s commitment to enhancing its portfolio in the extended-stay market.
In Las Vegas, Crescent Hotels & Resorts is breaking ground on a unique dual-branded hotel that features both an AC Hotel by Marriott and an Element by Westin. This hotel will be the first of its kind in the Symphony Park area, where no non-gaming dual-brand hotels currently exist. Once finished, it will stand as the largest AC/Element hotel worldwide, setting a new standard for combined hospitality offerings in the region.
The hotel market in Pennsylvania is also witnessing a shift, with the sale of a 137-key Residence Inn in Conshohocken. The Wankawala Organization has purchased this property from Hersha Hospitality for an undisclosed amount. Hersha originally acquired the hotel for $17.97 million back in 2015. Originally built in 2001, the Residence Inn continues to be a strong contender in the extended-stay segment.
Across the ocean, CapitaLand Group from Singapore has made strides in the South Korean market by acquiring The Connoisseur Residence in Yeouido for KRW73 billion. This marks CapitaLand’s first successful venture in South Korea’s hospitality sector, indicating growing interest in Asia’s booming hotel market.
In Australia, Accor has formed a partnership with Elanor Investors Group to rebrand four hotels in New South Wales. These properties, which include The Sebel Byron Bay and Mercure Barossa Valley, are set to join Accor’s network by October 2025, further solidifying Accor’s presence in the southern hemisphere.
In Thailand, The Ascott Ltd. is collaborating with Phuket HA 3 Co. Ltd. and Above Patong Residence Co. Ltd. to manage the new Ascott Above Patong Phuket development, featuring an impressive 482 units. Meanwhile, Indian Hotels Co. Ltd. (IHCL) has announced a new brownfield project under its Gateway brand in Pahalgam, with plans to build a 64-key resort.
Recent data shows that Abu Dhabi’s hotel industry reached an impressive 79.3% occupancy rate in August, while Sydney’s occupancy reached 84.4%, the highest level recorded since 2018, demonstrating a rebound in the travel and hospitality sectors.
The Mobile City Council is planning improvements for the Riverwalk Plaza Intersection and RSA Park, with a contract valued at $829,923. Plans for a mixed-use River Walk Plaza development include a hotel, residences, offices, and retail spaces, targeting a groundbreaking in 2025. This project aims to enhance the downtown waterfront experience and recreational opportunities for the community.
Additionally, Hyatt Hotels has opened its first Hyatt Studios hotel in Mobile, featuring studio-style suites tailored for extended-stay travelers. With well-equipped kitchens and complimentary breakfast options, this hotel is part of Hyatt’s Essentials Portfolio, designed to provide home-like accommodations for long-term stays.
