The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has unveiled a $15.4 million resurfacing project for Route 30 in York County, set to enhance road safety and infrastructure. Spanning two years, the work includes milling, asphalt resurfacing, and drainage improvements, with anticipated completion by December 2027. Initial drainage work has commenced, with future phases planned to minimize traffic disruption.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is set to embark on a significant resurfacing project along Route 30 in York County, with a budget of $15,475,000. The extensive work will span two years and is anticipated to be completed by December 1, 2027.
The project aims to improve a crucial stretch of Route 30, specifically from just west of the Route 462/Hallam Exit to the Wrights Ferry Bridge, which crosses the Susquehanna River. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to enhance road safety, driving conditions, and overall infrastructure.
The contractor selected for this large-scale undertaking is New Enterprise Stone and Lime Company, Inc., a firm based in New Enterprise, PA. Their experience in road construction and resurfacing will be pivotal in ensuring the project’s success.
The resurfacing project will include a variety of essential tasks, highlighting the comprehensive approach to road improvement. The key components are as follows:
Drainage work has already commenced this week along the shoulder of eastbound Route 30 and will continue at various locations off the roadway. These initial tasks are expected to occur without causing any significant traffic disruptions.
However, beginning on September 22, structure repairs at the Cool Springs Road bridge spanning Route 30 will lead to shoulder closures for both eastbound and westbound traffic during the work period. Additionally, between October 5-12, weather permitting, reconstruction of the westbound off-ramp at the Route 462 (Hallam) Exit will require temporary closure of the ramp, making detours necessary.
PennDOT plans to provide further information regarding detours prior to the work commencing to ensure that motorists can plan their routes accordingly.
As the project progresses, milling and paving operations will take place during the 2026 construction season for both eastbound and westbound sections of Route 30. This phased approach is intended to minimize traffic interference while maximizing the effectiveness of the upgrades.
The overall objective of this resurfacing project is not only to improve the road surface but also to enhance safety and accessibility for all who use Route 30 in York County. Motorists are encouraged to stay informed about the project’s status and any potential traffic impacts as work continues.
